Subtitles & Saffron

Perfect for foreign dramas, atmospheric storytelling, and quiet evenings with deep plots

About the Recipe

When I’m watching something slow, beautiful, and maybe just a little existential (Pachinko, The Handmaiden, Beef), I want a drink that feels delicate but layered. Subtitles & Saffron is a soft, golden mocktail with a touch of spice — contemplative but calming. The saffron makes it feel luxurious, like you’re fully tuned in.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz pear juice (or white grape juice)

  • ½ oz lemon juice

  • ½ oz honey syrup (1:1 honey + warm water)

  • Pinch of saffron threads or turmeric

  • Sparkling water to top

  • Ice

Instructions

Step 1

Combine all ingredients (except soda) in a shaker with ice.

Step 2

Shake well and strain into a chilled glass.

Step 3

Top with sparkling water and stir gently.

Tips

  • Zero-proof friendly: Always — this one was made as a mocktail.

  • Saffron too fancy? Use a tiny pinch of ground turmeric + black pepper instead.

  • Sweet swap: Use maple syrup or agave instead of honey.

  • Pair with: Thoughtful dramas, long monologues, and subtitles on always.

Serving Tips

Glass: Coupe or a delicate wine glass

Garnish: Tiny twist of lemon or edible flower

Vibe: Candlelit, focused, wrapped in a shawl you forgot you owned
