About the Recipe
The Autumn Ember, also known as a Date & Walnut Old Fashioned, is a deep, rich drink that smolders like firelight. Date syrup brings sweetness, walnut bitters add complexity, and bourbon or NA whiskey ties it together. A twist of orange peel brightens the glass, keeping this fall cocktail or mocktail smooth instead of heavy.

Ingredients
1 oz date syrup (dates simmered with water + sugar, strained)
2 oz bourbon or NA whiskey
2 dashes walnut bitters
Expressed orange peel
Instructions
Step 1
Stir date syrup, bitters, and bourbon with ice in a mixing glass.
Step 2
Strain into rocks glass over large ice cube.
Step 3
Express orange peel over glass and drop in.
Tips
Use less date syrup if you prefer it less sweet.
No walnut bitters? Try chocolate or Angostura.
Mocktail? Use NA whiskey.
